La Rioja officials call for increased seismic prevention
In La Rioja, Argentina, recent seismic activity has prompted calls to strengthen public preparedness and emergency training. David Barrera of the Regional Institute of Planning and Environmental Services Control emphasized that the province is in a seismic risk zone, making permanent prevention essential.
Barrera noted that the impact of an earthquake is not determined solely by magnitude, but also by depth, epicenter location, soil type, and proximity to urban areas. He warned that even low-magnitude events of 3, 4, or 5 can cause structural damage if they occur at shallow depths near populated sectors.
