La Rioja unveils strategic science and technology plan through 2030

The province of La Rioja has introduced its Science and Technology Strategic Plan for 2026-2030. Developed with the input of nearly 300 specialists, the roadmap aims to link innovation and knowledge with key economic sectors, including mining, energy, water, health, tourism, and the knowledge economy.

Governor Ricardo Quintela and Science and Technology Secretary Hugo Vera presented the plan during the Expo Rioja Futura. The initiative seeks to utilize scientific capabilities to drive productive projects and economic growth. The province has already seen results through its Technological Pole, which has trained over 8,000 young people and facilitated approximately 700 jobs.

In a related economic development effort, the Cámara Empresarial Riojana has proposed the creation of an industrial park in the Bermejo area. The proposal, led by President Rodrigo Carrizo, aims to support the growing mining sector by strengthening local suppliers and generating regional employment. As mining projects move from exploration to more active stages, the business chamber seeks to ensure that local companies can integrate into the service chains of large-scale mining operations.
