La Romana authorities investigate man found in septic tank
The body of Héctor Cedeño Ávila, 56, was discovered inside a septic tank at a farm he was guarding in the El Gato sector of Villa Hermosa, La Romana. Cedeño Ávila had been reported missing the previous Sunday.
Preliminary investigations by the National Police and forensic experts suggest the death may have involved mechanical asphyxia. Reports indicate the body was in a state of decomposition and appeared to have been gagged or had its face covered. One report noted the septic tank had been sealed with cement, suggesting potential criminal involvement. A medical examiner suggested the victim may have suffered cranial trauma or attempted strangulation.
The body has been transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) in San Pedro de Macorís for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Prosecutor Kelvin Santana stated that authorities are conducting inspections and gathering evidence to establish lines of investigation. As of now, no suspects have been detained.
