La Romana designated as ecotourism province by Senate

The Dominican Republic Senate has approved a bill in its second discussion to designate La Romana as an ecotourism province. The initiative proposes an annual allocation of RD$50 million over four years, totaling RD$200 million, to develop the local tourism sector.

The project includes the creation of the Ecotourism Development Council for La Romana. This body would be composed of representatives from the ministries of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources, and Culture, alongside provincial authorities and local organizations. The council would be responsible for regulating and promoting ecotourism activities and deciding the allocation of resources.

Additionally, the proposal includes tax incentives for companies interested in executing ecotourism projects. The bill must now be reviewed and approved by the Chamber of Deputies before being sent to the Executive Branch for final promulgation.
