La Romieu: 5-year-old boy killed by falling gate during family event
A 5-year-old boy died on Sunday, August 23, following a domestic accident in La Romieu, Gers. The child was crushed when a heavy gate suddenly detached and fell during a family gathering.
Emergency services arrived to find the child in cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite the deployment of a medical helicopter from Purpan, the child could not be resuscitated. A 2-year-old brother was also struck by the gate and sustained minor injuries, including a head wound; he was transported to the Condom hospital center for examination.
The exact cause of the gate's collapse remains unknown. Local gendarmes are investigating the incident and are expected to interview family members to establish the circumstances of the tragedy.
