La Réunion enhances pediatric emergency care services

The Regional Health Agency (ARS) of La Réunion and the CHU de La Réunion have announced a new organizational structure for pediatric emergency care across the territory. The plan includes the creation of a specialized regional pediatric SMUR (Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Service) that will operate 24/7 and be mobilizable throughout the entire island.

Additionally, the plan involves a significant reinforcement of pediatric emergency services at the CHU Sud, focusing on improved reception, orientation, and medical resources for children. To support this consolidation, the ARS La Réunion is mobilizing approximately 2.8 million euros in permanent funding. This initiative aims to secure and optimize pediatric care to better meet the needs of various population centers, following data showing nearly 4,800 pediatric missions were conducted between 2021 and 2025.
