Léa Salamé may exit France 2 news role amid Glucksmann candidacy

Journalist Léa Salamé may step down from her role as the presenter of France 2’s 20:00 news program earlier than expected. While she was scheduled to return to the anchor chair on August 24, her departure could be precipitated by the imminent political announcement of her partner, Raphaël Glucksmann.

Glucksmann, an MEP and leader of Place Publique, is expected to officially announce his candidacy for the 2027 French presidential election on Sunday, August 23. Salamé had previously stated that she would leave her broadcasting position immediately if Glucksmann entered the race for the presidency.

In response to this potential shift, France Télévisions is reportedly preparing a contingency plan to manage the transition for the evening news broadcast.
