La Serena celebrates 482nd anniversary with focus on solidarity
La Serena is celebrating its 482nd anniversary with a program focused on community solidarity and recovery following recent severe weather emergencies. The anniversary month includes a traditional mass at the Cathedral to pray for the city's reconstruction and the well-being of its residents.
Mayor Daniela Norambuena announced that several activities will honor those who contributed to the community during the recent climate emergency. On Wednesday, August 26, a ceremony will be held to present the 'Medalla de Honor de La Serena' at the municipal building. Due to damage sustained by the Municipal Theater during the storms, the ceremony will be held outdoors to avoid additional infrastructure costs.
A major highlight of the celebrations will be the 'Verbena Solidaria,' scheduled for Saturday, August 29, at the Plaza de Armas. This event will serve as a collection center to provide aid to neighbors affected by the heavy rains and intense weather systems.
