La Serena driver detained after hitting 17-year-old student
Police investigators in La Serena, Chile, arrested a 19-year-old driver suspected of striking a 17-year-old student with a white Toyota Hilux and fleeing the scene. The incident occurred at a regulated pedestrian crossing near the victim’s school. The driver was identified through the vehicle’s license plate and captured in flagrante delicto. He now faces charges of attempted injury, hit‑and‑run, and driving without a license, and has been placed before the local guarantee court.
The investigation was launched by the Public Ministry and carried out by the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Police of Investigations (PDI). The victim was thrown several meters by the impact and required medical attention, while the driver left without providing assistance.
