La Seu d’Urgell Social Security office closure sparks local protest
Pensioners from the CCOO group in Alt Urgell have expressed indignation regarding the closure of the Social Security office in La Seu d’Urgell. The collective describes the situation as “intolerable,” noting that the closure has been in effect for approximately two months due to staff sick leave.
The group claims the closure causes serious harm to individuals and businesses in the Alt Urgell and Cerdanya regions, as well as Spanish residents living in Andorra. They criticize the lack of interest from provincial and state authorities in addressing long-term staffing shortages and the lack of information regarding administrative decisions.
Demands have been made to reopen the office with stable personnel capable of handling procedures for both the National Institute of Social Security and the General Social Security Treasury. Currently, citizens are forced to use electronic or telephone services, or travel to distant locations such as Balaguer, Lleida, Puigcerdà, Tremp, or Tàrrega. The local city council has also issued similar demands for the service to be restored.
