La Silla Amazonía Wins Environmental Journalism Prize in Colombia

In the sixth edition of the Constructora Capital Social and Environmental Journalism Award, La Silla Amazonía’s story “Tres guardianas del Alto Putumayo desafían monocultivos, ganadería y vías” by Natalia Arbeláez won the Impacto Ambiental – Escrito category. The piece highlights three indigenous Inga and Kamentša women in the Alto Putumayo who preserve language, traditional agriculture, and forest knowledge to protect their territory.

Other winners from the outlet included Santiago Bernal and his university team, who earned the Universidad category for the transmedia work “Hilando historias desde la raíz.” The award, judged by biologist Brigitte Baptiste, economist Mauricio Reina and engineer Pablo Echeverri, recognized 62 submissions aimed at raising public awareness of positive sustainability stories.

The prize seeks to promote environmental topics on the public agenda and to showcase initiatives such as the Caquetá cattle farms’ Pact Caquetá, which convert pastures into future forest land.
