La Unión municipality faces workplace harassment allegations

The Association of Municipal Employees No. 1 of La Unión has raised serious concerns regarding repeated allegations of workplace harassment and hostility within the Municipality of La Unión. According to the association, several female employees have reported incidents that have severely impacted their emotional well-being and health.

The Chilean Association of Security (ACHS) has conducted medical evaluations and expert assessments, validating three out of the four complaints as effective cases of workplace harassment. These findings have led to the classification of the conditions as occupational illnesses, necessitating specific protective measures from the municipality.

Mayor Saturnino Quezada stated that the allegations are centered within the Finance Department and stem from previous administrations, asserting that his current management is not directly involved. He confirmed that the relevant documentation has been submitted to the Comptroller General of the Republic and that the administration is awaiting instructions on subsequent actions. Meanwhile, the employees' association has expressed concern over recent attempts by an accused party to request a change in functions for one of the affected workers, which they argue could exacerbate the situation.
