The classic leather footwear features a small Spanish flag sewn onto the side, a design element that some users have associated with specific social classes or political ideologies.

In response to the controversy, the company, which has operated for over 75 years, has defended the product by emphasizing the importance of artisanal craftsmanship. La Valenciana highlighted the challenges facing the sector, noting that 35% of companies in the industry disappeared between 2020 and 2025. The firm stated its goal is to focus on handmade products and support artisans across the Iberian Peninsula.
