La Vega communities form committee to restore Rio Verde
Communities in Cutupú and Las Canas, located in the La Vega province, have organized a community committee to lead the recovery of the Rio Verde micro-basin. The initiative aims to promote the conservation of water sources, forests, and local biodiversity.
The project is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and the Vega Real Cooperative. It follows a two-month training period where Ministry technicians conducted five workshops to prepare residents for micro-basin management.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Davis Aracena, the Deputy Minister of Soils and Waters, emphasized that environmental conservation requires the active participation of local inhabitants. The newly formed committee is chaired by engineer José Ramón Tejada.
