SeNaSa 2.0 corruption case: Judge imposes prison for eight defendants

In the SeNaSa 2.0 case, Judge Rigoberto Sena has declared the legal proceedings complex and imposed various coercive measures against 26 defendants accused of a corruption scheme involving the National Health Insurance agency. The alleged fraud, which primarily targets false billing of medical procedures, is estimated to have caused a loss of approximately RD$40 million to the Dominican State.

Of the 26 individuals implicated, including doctors and former employees, eight have been sentenced to 18 months of preventive prison. These include Angeury Guzmán Vásquez, Starky Atahualpa Arturo Rodríguez Nova, Juan Henry Poueriet, Wander Manuel Díaz Encarnación, Isabel Heredia Vallejo, Hanna Rashell Rodríguez Almanzar, Elsa Evelyn de la Rosa Vásquez, and Laura Altagracia Santana Evangelista. Nine other defendants were placed under house arrest, while several others were granted economic guarantees, periodic reporting requirements, and travel bans.

Prosecutor Wilson Camacho noted that at least 13 defendants admitted to the alleged facts during the hearings. He also warned medical professionals against lending their professional codes to facilitate such fraudulent activities. While initial investigations suggested a much larger institutional embezzlement scheme potentially reaching RD$16 billion, the current indictment focuses on these specific smaller-scale operations.
