La virgen de la tosquera selected for Goya Awards

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Argentina has selected “La virgen de la tosquera”, directed by Laura Casabé, to represent the country in the Best Ibero-American Film category at the 41st Goya Awards in 2027.

Following a two-stage voting process involving over 700 Academy members, the film emerged as the winner over finalists including “El Partido” by Juan Cabral and Santiago Franco, “Nuestra Tierra” by Lucrecia Martel, and “Parque Lezama” by Juan José Campanella. The announcement was made at the Residence of the Spanish Ambassador in Argentina, featuring actress Dolores Fonzi, who previously won a Goya for the film “Belén”.

Based on short stories by Mariana Enríquez and written by Benjamín Naishtat, “La virgen de la tosquera” is a genre-blending film that combines horror, drama, and social memory. Set during the summer of 2001 amidst Argentina's economic crisis, the story follows three teenage friends navigating desire, jealousy, and supernatural elements.
