La Vuelta implements sustainability measures for 81st edition

The 81st edition of La Vuelta a España is implementing significant sustainability measures, including a major reduction in single-use plastics. Since 2021, the competition has reduced plastic bottle consumption by 95%, avoiding the use of approximately 128,000 containers.

For the upcoming edition, official water provider Aquaservice will distribute over 40,000 liters of water using a circular economy model with reusable containers. This initiative aims to serve more than 3,000 people, including cyclists, technical teams, journalists, and organizers, while preventing the consumption of over 1,280 kg of single-use plastic during the race.

Other environmental and social initiatives include the use of a 100% plug-in hybrid fleet provided by Skoda and previous efforts such as planting 1,000 native trees. The race will begin with an individual time trial in Monaco before traveling through France and Andorra to reach its conclusion in Granada, Spain.
