Labé and Ouagadougou authorities enforce market price regulations

Authorities in Labé and Ouagadougou have implemented strict measures to enforce price regulations and combat economic misconduct.

In Labé, the municipal government announced the closure of the central market butchery and surrounding meat stalls effective August 16, 2026. The decision follows a failure by meat professionals to adhere to a price-per-kilogram agreement established in May between local authorities and sector representatives. Officials intend to hold a meeting on August 17 to seek a solution that balances consumer access with the concerns of meat vendors.

In Ouagadougou, the Mobile Brigade for Economic Control and Fraud Repression (BMCRF) conducted inspections of essential goods, including rice, oil, sugar, and soap. Several shops and stores were immediately closed and sealed following the discovery of illegal pricing, speculation, and the sale of expired products. The BMCRF stated that violators will face legal consequences, including community service, as part of a broader effort to enforce new consumer product regulations.
