Labé: knife attack attempt on imam during Friday prayer

A young man armed with a knife allegedly attempted to attack the second imam of the Yerande mosque in the Tata 2 neighborhood of Labé during Friday prayers on November 6, 2026.

The suspect, reportedly a student from a nearby Quranic school, entered the mosque around 1:40 p.m. and headed toward the mihrab. The attack was prevented by the rapid intervention of the second muezzin, who restrained the individual, followed by assistance from local neighborhood counselors.

Mamadou Mouctar Diallo, deputy president of the Tata 2 neighborhood council, stated that the suspect had previously expressed hostile intentions toward the imam, including a desire to take his position. While some suggested the youth might be suffering from mental health issues, local officials noted that security services had been previously alerted to his behavior. Following the incident, gendarmerie officers arrived at the scene to collect information. The youth's sheikh reportedly committed to taking him to Conakry for medical care.
