Global markets face volatility as oil prices and US Treasury yields surge FAST-MOVING

Global financial markets are facing significant volatility driven by rising energy prices and shifting interest rate expectations. Brent crude oil prices have climbed above $107 per barrel, fueled by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, specifically following Houthi militia attacks in Yemen and damage to a major Saudi Arabian east-west pipeline. This energy shock has heightened inflationary concerns, leading markets to price in a higher probability of interest rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve.

In the United States, the 10-year Treasury yield has surged past 5%, reaching its highest level since 2007. This rise in yields, combined with oil price volatility, has pressured major US indices, including the Dow Jones, S&P 500, and Nasdaq, which closed lower on Tuesday. Additionally, technology stocks have faced pressure due to uncertainties regarding the pace of Artificial Intelligence development.

European markets, including the DAX and IBEX 35, have also experienced downward trends. The DAX has struggled with high energy costs and rising interest rates, while the IBEX 35 has seen corrections following recent gains. In Turkey, the BIST 100 index closed lower, reflecting broader investor caution amidst global geopolitical risks.
