Labor announces candidates for Ballina and Mornington

The Australian Labor Party has announced its candidates for the upcoming state elections in Ballina and Mornington.

In Ballina, Janet Swain, a Byron Shire councillor, musician, and former teacher, has officially launched her campaign. Supported by senior figures including NSW Emergency Services Minister Jihad Dib and Federal MP Justine Elliot, Swain aims to transition from local government to state politics. She has expressed concerns regarding the Minns Government’s planning reforms and their potential impact on local planning controls.

In Mornington, Kerry Macdonald has been named as the Labor candidate. A former senior public servant and management consultant, Macdonald is the president of the Mornington Branch. Her platform focuses on social reform, workers' rights, and climate action. She has also highlighted her involvement with the Labor Environment Action Network (LEAN) and her commitment to protecting the local green wedge.
