Labor authorities in Chile and Argentina address worker rights and platform regulation
In Chile, the Labor Security Institute (ISL) of Arica and Parinacota held an information session focused on occupational health and safety for fee-based workers. Led by professionals Maura Cuevas Carreño and Cristina Zúñiga Fernández, the initiative aimed to provide tools for risk prevention and health management. The session emphasized the right to decent work and safe conditions, supported by Chilean Law 16.744 and the National Policy on Occupational Health and Safety, as well as Supreme Decree 44, which strengthens preventive risk management.
In Argentina, the Buenos Aires Ministry of Labor participated in a forum titled “Decent Work, Platforms and Informality.” During the event, Labor Minister Walter Correa discussed a provincial bill designed to regulate and inspect work performed through digital platforms. The project seeks to align local labor standards with International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention 193. The discussion included representatives from various sectors, such as transport, delivery, and the knowledge economy, addressing the challenges of precarious labor in the digital age.
