Labor disputes and wage changes reported in Poland

In Poland, significant labor developments are occurring in both the retail and sports sectors. Employees at the Biedronka supermarket chain are threatening a warning strike due to staffing shortages and increased workloads. Represented by the OPZZ Konfederacja Pracy union, workers are demanding a 1,000 PLN monthly pay increase and additional staff to manage tasks such as self-checkout service and heavy deliveries. Negotiations with management are scheduled for November 17, with a potential meeting with the Minister of Family, Labor, and Social Policy on November 20. If no agreement is reached, union leaders may seek mediation.

In the sports sector, Pogoń Szczecin has implemented wage increases for over 200 employees, effective October 1. This move follows a period of financial instability where the club faced protests from players over unpaid wages totaling approximately 9 million PLN. The club has introduced a new policy to implement salary adjustments cyclically every July to improve organizational stability. While administrative and academy staff are reportedly receiving timely payments, some delays have been noted for employees on B2B contracts.
