Labor disputes arise in Argentina and Peru involving union leaders

In Argentina, a civil and commercial court in Córdoba has ordered the Unión Obrera Metalúrgica de la República Argentina (UOMRA) to pay approximately $17,501,980.57 in damages to a former union collaborator. The court ruled that the termination of her union license was motivated by discriminatory reasons related to her health and gender. The judge, Alberto Julio Mayda, noted that the decision to end her license occurred five months after she suffered a work-related accident and while she was still on medical leave.

In Peru, Nathaly Fuentes, the former general secretary of the Banco Ripley Workers' Union, has initiated legal proceedings to seek reinstatement following her dismissal on June 25. Fuentes claims the termination was a retaliatory measure following her reports of workplace hostility and negative actions against employees. She alleges the company attempted to force her to retract social media statements that she maintains were truthful, characterizing the dismissal as an attempt to remove her from her leadership position.
