Labor disputes reported at ports in Argentina and Chile

Labor disputes have emerged at two different port facilities in South America. In Puerto Madryn, Argentina, the company Estrella Patagónica dismissed 27 workers. The firm cited operational and economic difficulties, stating it cannot sustain the workforce during the gap between national and provincial fishing seasons. Workers and union representatives from STIA protested the decision with tire burnings, characterizing the dismissals as being without cause. The Secretary of Labor has intervened to oversee the conflict.

In San Antonio, Chile, protests have broken out at the port following the dismissal of four employees by DP World. The company stated the terminations were disciplinary measures taken due to participation in unauthorized strikes and other conduct that violated internal safety and operational standards. Demonstrators have established barricades on Angamos Street, one of the main access points to the terminal, potentially impacting port operations.
