Labor informality decreases in Gran Tucumán–Tafí Viejo

Labor informality in the Gran Tucumán–Tafí Viejo region showed a decrease during the first quarter of 2026 compared to the end of 2025. According to official data, the informality rate among salaried employees fell to 44.8%, a reduction of 4.6 percentage points from the 49.4% recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025.

When considering all occupational categories—including employers, self-employed individuals, salaried workers, and unpaid family workers—the total informal employment rate stood at 56.2%. This represents a 3.7 percentage point decline from the 59.9% observed in the previous quarter.

While these figures suggest a short-term downward trend in informality, the rates remain high, presenting a structural challenge for the local labor market. The measurements follow INDEC criteria, which define informal employment as activities conducted outside of regulatory frameworks, such as tax, accounting, and social security obligations for the self-employed, or labor protection laws for dependent workers.
