Labor inspections reveal 4,700 violations on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast

Summer inspections of seasonal businesses along Bulgaria's Black Sea coast uncovered 4,700 labor violations. According to Pavlin Vaskov, director of the Labor Inspectorate in Burgas, the most frequent offense was employees working without formal labor contracts.

Other significant violations included breaches of working hours, payment issues, and safety regulation lapses, particularly regarding electrical safety instructions. Inspectors also identified cases involving minors working without permits and the employment of third-country nationals without proper documentation.

In a broader economic context, data from the Institute for Market Economics highlights the heavy reliance on seasonal workers from non-EU countries. In 2025, 18,658 permits for 90-day seasonal employment were registered in Bulgaria. The highest concentrations of these workers are found in the Burgas, Varna, Pazardzhik, and Dobrich regions, primarily serving the tourism, agriculture, and construction sectors.
