Labor law debates emerge in Argentina and Honduras

In Argentina, the Centro de Empleados de Comercio de La Pampa has expressed opposition to a proposal by Deputy María Laura Trapaglia to repeal Law 2717, which governs Sunday rest. The union requested concrete statistical evidence to justify the repeal, questioning whether the law has caused job losses, decreased sales, or economic harm during its nearly thirteen years of implementation. The union noted that the law was originally passed with broad consensus among workers, businesses, and the provincial government.

In Honduras, Deputy Sara Zavala defended the Part-Time Employment Law, which was approved by the National Congress in March 2026. The legislation aims to regulate reduced workdays, ranging from 18 to 32 hours per week, and seeks to bring informal workers into the formal economy. The law includes protections such as paid vacations, social security through the Instituto Hondureño de Seguridad Social, and provisions to prevent the artificial fragmentation of full-time positions.
