Guayaquil celebrates 491st foundation anniversary with parade and municipal ceremony

Guayaquil commemorated its 491st foundation anniversary with a series of events in July 2026. A solemn municipal session was held on 25 July in the City Hall’s Salón de la Ciudad, presided over by interim mayor Tatiana Coronel. The following day, 26 July, the province organized the “Guayas Sostenible” parade featuring five elaborately designed floats, more than 20 artisan families, and 450 dancers marching along the Malecón 2000.

The celebration also included a packed agenda of cultural activities from 21 to 26 July, such as concerts, fairs, exhibitions, free workshops and a city tour, all aimed at highlighting local heritage and promoting tourism during the anniversary week.
