Labor market trends show mixed employment data in Spanish regions
Labor market data from various regions in Spain shows mixed results regarding employment and unemployment. In the Alcoi region, unemployment rose by 11 people in September, bringing the total for the districts to 9,180. While Alcoi saw an increase of 77 unemployed individuals, reaching a total of 4,380, other municipalities like Ibi, Castalla, and Muro d’Alcoi reported decreases in unemployment.
In the Camp de Morvedre region, Social Security affiliation has increased significantly over the past year, with 1,662 new registrations. Labor unions note that the regularization of migrants has helped bring jobs from the underground economy into the formal sector, with record numbers of self-employed workers and domestic workers. However, unemployment in Camp de Morvedre rose by 83 people in September compared to August, and there are 143 more unemployed individuals than a year ago.
Across these regions, women continue to represent a high proportion of the unemployed population. Unions are calling for policies to improve job quality, ensure equal pay, and address the seasonal nature of the labor market.
