Labor markets face AI transformation and skilled talent shortages
The global labor market is undergoing a transformation driven by technological integration and acute skilled labor shortages. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025, 86% of companies expect AI and information processing technologies to transform their business operations before 2030. Consequently, 77% of employers plan to invest in training their workforce to collaborate with these new tools.
In Spain, regional labor markets face significant challenges in talent acquisition. In the Basque Autonomous Community, Confebask reports that 90% of companies struggle to find required profiles. Despite this, over 33,000 new hires are anticipated this year, primarily in vocational training and university-level roles, driven by business growth and retirements.
Similarly, Navarra is addressing a shortage of specialized workers, particularly in the ICT sector where 48% of companies report difficulty filling vacancies. To combat this, the regional government has implemented Navarra Talent, a public initiative designed to attract international professionals through marketing efforts in Europe, the United States, Mexico, India, and China.
