Labor markets in Moldova and Romania report job vacancies and skill mismatches
Labor markets in Moldova and Romania are showing distinct trends regarding employment availability and skill requirements. In the Ungheni district of Moldova, Ghenadie Podgornîi, head of the local employment agency, reported a paradox where hundreds of vacancies exist in large companies and industrial platforms, such as Lear Corporation and S.A. Covoare-Ungheni, yet citizens continue to seek stable income. This imbalance is attributed to a significant mismatch between available jobs and the qualifications of the workforce.
In Dâmbovița, Romania, the County Agency for Employment (AJOFM) has reported 366 vacant positions. Executive Director Constanța Anghel noted that the diverse range of openings—spanning skilled trades, higher education roles, and unskilled labor—reflects active economic dynamics in the county. The agency is focusing on ensuring sustainable matches between employer demands and candidate abilities.
