Labor negotiations shift at Lomas Bayas as Uruguay launches industrial forum
The SPTA Union has established new guidelines for the 2026 collective bargaining process with Compañía Minera Lomas Bayas. The union announced it will not consider extending benefits to non-unionized workers, a move intended to strengthen union participation and protect the commitment of its members. This decision marks a shift from previous agreements, such as a 2021 sustainability report which noted that benefits had been extended to non-union staff through dialogue.
In Uruguay, the Cámara de Industrias del Uruguay (CIU) and the PIT-CNT, supported by Inefop, have launched the Foro de Referentes Industriales as part of the País Industrial project. This initiative, which will operate until July 2027, serves as a collaborative platform between workers, employers, and academia to influence public policy and industrial development through a final document of proposals.
