Gerardo Sánchez Zumaya withdraws PT governorship candidacy in San Luis Potosí

Gerardo Sánchez Zumaya has announced his decision to withdraw his pre-candidacy for the governorship of San Luis Potosí under the Partido del Trabajo (PT) banner. Sánchez Zumaya stated the decision is strictly personal and intended to allow him to focus on family matters.

His withdrawal occurs during a period of tension between the PT and Morena regarding their electoral alliance for the 2027 elections. The PT has expressed dissatisfaction with how Morena has managed internal profile definitions, citing a failure to respect agreed-upon mechanisms such as mirror surveys. While Morena considers recent candidate definitions final, the PT maintains that the process in San Luis Potosí remains open.

Despite Sánchez Zumaya's resignation, PT state commissioner Gerardo Acosta Zavala indicated that the party leadership continues to support the businessman and intends to maintain its proposal for the state. Nationally, the PT is currently evaluating whether to continue its coalition with Morena, compete independently in certain states, or run separately across the board.
