Labor Party threatens to break Mexican political alliance

The leadership of Mexico’s Labor Party (PT) has expressed significant dissatisfaction following recent candidate designations for the 2027 gubernatorial elections. Despite a formal alliance between the PT, Morena, and the Green Party (PVEM) to run together in 16 of 17 states, the PT feels sidelined in the selection process for defenders of democracy and sovereignty.

This perceived exclusion has led to threats from the PT to break the alliance and field their own candidates in several states. Potential battlegrounds for the PT include Zacatecas, where Senator Geovanna Bañuelos is considered a strong prospect, and Baja California, where former Tijuana Mayor Montserrat Caballero holds significant presence. The party is also evaluating its position in San Luis Potosí and Nuevo León as it considers competing independently or with alternative allies.

Entities
