Labor Prosecutor investigates worker death at Ero mine in Bahia

The Labor Public Ministry (MPT) in Bahia has opened an inquiry to investigate the death of a worker at the Pilar underground mine, located in the Caraíba unit in Jaguarari. The victim, 45-year-old machine operator José Ronaldo Silva de Carvalho, died following an accident involving a motor grader on Saturday night.

The investigation aims to determine employer responsibility and verify compliance with occupational health and safety standards for mining activities. The MPT will coordinate with the Regional Superintendency of Labor in Bahia (SRT-BA) to gather technical evidence regarding the causes of the accident and the adequacy of preventive measures.

Following the incident, the company Ero announced a 24-hour suspension of production activities at the Caraíba unit, affecting the Pilar, Vermelhos, and Surubim mines, while maintaining only essential services. Ero stated it is assisting the victim's family and cooperating with authorities. Carvalho had been with the company since 2012.
