Cuiabá expands SUS services and faces health worker safety lawsuit

The City of Cuiabá has formalized a partnership with Hospital Otorrino through the ‘Fila Zero’ program, an initiative by the Mato Grosso government aimed at reducing waiting lists for specialized surgeries and procedures. This collaboration specifically expands the availability of otorhinolaryngology consultations, exams, and surgeries within the public health system (SUS).

Separately, the Labor Public Ministry (MPT-MT) has filed a civil public action against the Empresa Cuiabana de Saúde Pública (ECSP), which manages the Cuiabá Municipal Hospital and the São Benedito Municipal Hospital. The MPT is seeking a minimum of R$ 200,000 in collective moral damages due to failures in protecting workers from carcinogenic agents, including ionizing radiation and ethylene oxide. The legal action demands immediate preventive measures, such as improved medical monitoring, proper training, and the provision of adequate personal protective equipment (EPIs).
