Labor reforms face challenges in Mexico and Dominican Republic

Labor reforms and conciliation processes are facing different challenges in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. In Baja California, Mexico, state labor authorities report a 75% effectiveness rate in resolving controversies through agreements. However, questions remain regarding the quality of these conciliations, specifically whether agreements are truly voluntary, informed, and whether conciliators effectively balance negotiations between workers and employers.

In the Dominican Republic, Alfredo Pacheco, President of the Chamber of Deputies, stated that labor reform remains stalled due to a lack of consensus between worker and employer representatives. Pacheco emphasized the need for balance to maintain the country's economic development. He noted that the legislature will focus on other pending initiatives, such as the Civil Code and a new oversight law, while also expressing support for recent government appointments.
