Labor trends show remote work benefits in Peru and informality drivers in Mexico
A regional survey conducted by ConFye and various business schools indicates that remote work is viewed favorably by Peruvian employees. Approximately 76.7% of respondents believe remote work helps them meet objectives more effectively, while 66.6% report an increase in overall productivity. While 73.3% are satisfied with their work-life balance, mental disconnection remains a challenge, as only 45.3% report being able to avoid thinking about work-related issues during off-hours.
In Mexico, research presented at El Colegio de México highlights the drivers of labor informality. A study by Yale University researcher Mayara Félix suggests that workers consider factors beyond salary and social security when choosing employment, such as job stability, commute times, work hours, and autonomy. This comes amid data from INEGI showing that informal labor reached 56.2% of the occupied population in July 2026, affecting 34.1 million people.
