Labor unions demand local hiring at Calcatreu project

Labor representatives in Ingeniero Jacobacci, Río Negro, are demanding that the Calcatreu project prioritize the hiring of local workers. Mario Pichimán, a delegate for UOCRA, stated that the company has repeatedly ignored requests to hire residents from the locality and neighboring Mapuche communities, despite the project being promoted as a source of local employment.

Pichimán criticized the company’s human resources practices for hiring outside personnel instead of available local profiles. He expressed support for the Río Negro government’s decision to implement temporary work stoppages and called for increased provincial oversight to ensure labor obligations are met.
