Labor unions in Bosnia and Herzegovina call for better worker protections

Labor representatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina are highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by workers, specifically in the education and general labor sectors.

In Zenica-Doboj Canton, Selvedin Šatorović, president of the Independent Union of Primary Education and Upbringing, emphasized that quality education requires serious investment. While noting improved material conditions and positive cooperation with the cantonal ministry, he stressed the need for better working conditions, dignified earnings, and increased respect for the rights of educators to ensure the future of the country.

In Republika Srpska, Goran Stanković, president of the Union of Trade Unions, addressed the economic position of the working class. He noted recent progress, such as increasing the minimum wage to 1,000 KM and introducing differentiated pay based on professional qualifications, alongside health supplements for workers. However, he warned that nominal wage increases are often offset by inflation and the rising cost of basic living necessities, calling for more systemic solutions and expanded regulations on product margins.
