Labor unions in Mexico and Uruguay hold leadership elections

Labor unions in Mexico and Uruguay are undergoing leadership transitions. In Tampico, Mexico, the Sindicato Único de Empleados y Trabajadores del Republicano Ayuntamiento (SUETRA) is holding an electoral assembly on September 19 to elect a new local committee. Elizabeth Juárez Merinos is the sole candidate registered, leading the 'Planilla Roja'. Approximately 600 active, retired, and pensioned members are eligible to vote.

In Uruguay, the Sindicato Médico del Uruguay (SMU) has concluded its first-ever electronic election. Clara Niz, representing the Fosalba group, has been elected as the new president. The Fosalba faction secured a majority of the positions, receiving 1,645 votes. A total of 3,325 people participated in the vote, representing 40.8% of the eligible electorate, which included 8,141 doctors and students.
