Labor unions in Sinaloa and Michoacán denounce financial irregularities
Labor unions in Mexico are taking legal and industrial action following allegations of unpaid benefits and budget mismanagement. In Sinaloa, the STASASA union announced plans to strike and initiate criminal proceedings regarding the alleged diversion of funds. Union leader Karina López Román stated that the organization is seeking more than 3 million pesos in unpaid withholdings, including retirement and housing savings funds, as well as overtime pay. The union intends to pursue legal action against those responsible for the missing resources.
In Michoacán, the STASPE union held a strike in Morelia to protest a lack of resources for supplies and maintenance within state government offices. General Secretary Antonio Ferreyra Piñón reported that the administration has issued checks that were subsequently rejected due to insufficient funds. Ferreyra Piñón attributed these shortages to a budget freeze implemented in September, alleging that funds were prioritized for government construction projects over the operational needs of state dependencies.
