Labor unions protest wage stagnation and austerity in Argentina and Sweden

Labor unions in Argentina and Sweden are raising concerns regarding wage stagnation and government austerity measures.

In Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, Felipe Concha, General Secretary of ATE Río Grande, has called for the urgent resumption of collective bargaining negotiations for provincial public administration employees. Concha criticized the economic reality facing workers, stating that a 1% salary offer would be “vergonzoso” (shameful) given the current loss of purchasing power. He urged the provincial government to secure funds to address necessary salary recompositions.

In Santa Fe, Sweden, Rodrigo Alonso, General Secretary of AMSAFE, criticized provincial adjustment policies and their impact on education workers and retirees. Alonso highlighted that teachers have lost 35% of their purchasing power under the administration of Maximiliano Pullarosi. He also raised concerns regarding pension reforms, noting that retirees receive significantly less than active teachers and have faced insufficient increases relative to inflation.
