Labour MPs face scrutiny over £400,000 in hospitality gifts

Labour Party MPs have faced renewed scrutiny following disclosures that they accepted nearly £400,000 in hospitality this year. The gifts include tickets to concerts, sporting events, and award ceremonies.

Several high-ranking officials are named in the disclosures. Deputy Leader Lucy Powell accepted £858 in tickets to a Harry Styles concert, while Defence Secretary Wes Streeting received tickets to the Chelsea Flower Show valued at £1,839 from Lloyds Banking Group. Louise Haigh accepted a ticket to the Ivor Novello awards worth £1,314. Chief Whip Anneliese Midgley received Brit Awards hospitality valued at £3,432, alongside hospitality from Flutter for the Cheltenham festival and the Grand National.

The reports note that several individuals accepted these gifts while serving as backbench MPs before being elevated to cabinet positions. Other ministers also declared hospitality, including Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander, who accepted Wimbledon tickets worth £1,480, and Attorney General Ellie Reeves, who accepted tickets to the Ivors worth £1,314.
