Labour Party launches election campaign in New Zealand

The New Zealand Labour Party has officially launched its election campaign, marked by leader Chris Hipkins erecting a campaign billboard in Christchurch. Hipkins described the slogan unveiling as a “significant milestone” in the campaign, citing concerns over the rising cost of living and high youth unemployment as key issues facing the country.

In the Tāmaki electorate, Labour candidate Max Harris is campaigning to reclaim a seat the party has not held in 69 years. Recent unverified electorate polling suggests a tight three-way race between Harris (24%), Act candidate James Christmas (26%), and National candidate Mahesh Muralidhar (23%). Harris, a former lawyer and author, stated his decision to run was driven by a desire to address community concerns regarding recent legislative debates, such as the Treaty Principle Bill.
