National Party pledges $1.75b for Auckland Mill Road project
New Zealand political parties have released key election pledges regarding infrastructure and labor rights. The National Party has committed $1.75 billion to fund Stage One of Auckland’s Mill Road project, with construction potentially beginning in late 2028. Additionally, National pledged $100 million for route protection for stages two and three of the corridor.
In contrast, the Labour Party has pledged to restore pay equity for 65,000 care and support workers, including an immediate $4 per hour pay rise. The Public Service Association has welcomed this as a first step but continues to campaign for a full settlement within the first 100 days of a new government. The union notes that reinstating pay equity could potentially grow the economy by $13.5 billion over four years.
