Labour Party wins Holborn and St Pancras by-election

The Labour Party has successfully defended the Holborn and St Pancras seat in a UK by-election. Candidate Sagal Abdi-Wali secured 45 percent of the vote with 12,292 votes, defeating the Green Party candidate Zack Polanski, who received 33 percent (8,928 votes).

The result provides political momentum for Prime Minister Andy Burnham as he seeks to regain support from traditional urban voters. The Conservative Party placed third, followed by Reform UK.

Separately, at the Labour Party annual conference in Liverpool, Prime Minister Burnham presented a vision focused on social policy, housing, and the cost of living. He signaled a potential reopening of the debate regarding a full return to the European Union and proposed reforms to the current majority voting system and social care for seniors.
