Labrinth steps back from Euphoria, returns with new solo albums

British producer and songwriter Labrinth (Timothy McKenzie) shocked fans early in the year with an expletive‑filled Instagram post declaring he was quitting the US teen drama series Euphoria, his record label Columbia Records and the music industry, writing “F*** COLUMBIA, DOUBLE F***EUPHORIA. I M OUT.”

He withdrew his contributions to the third season’s score, leaving Oscar‑winning composer Hans Zimmer as the sole credit. Shortly after, Labrinth released the solo album Cosmic Opera Act I and, in May, followed with Cosmic Opera Act II, indicating he still had more to express. He described his decision as a “transition period,” saying he was growing disillusioned with fame and industry expectations.

The move sparked discussion about his future collaborations and the direction of Euphoria’s music, while his new releases received attention for their darker, introspective tone.
