Labuan schools remain open amid unhealthy haze levels

All 27 schools in Labuan, involving nearly 20,000 students across 17 primary and 10 secondary schools, will remain operational despite unhealthy haze conditions. The Air Pollutant Index (API) has reached a level of 158.

In accordance with Ministry of Education regulations, all outdoor classroom activities—including physical education, sports, co-curricular activities, and assemblies—have been suspended to prevent student exposure to outdoor air. Yahya Ahmad Puteh, Director of the Labuan Education Department, stated that while air quality is currently under control, precautionary measures are being taken. He noted that if the API exceeds 200, school closures may be implemented based on monitoring and advice from the Ministry of Education.
